The Foolishness of God

A stumbling Man:
dirty, ragged, stupid-looking
in His purple robe and wooden crown.

He takes up the heavy cross,
drags it through the streets
as young and old behold the idiot
leading the procession.

They nail Him to the beam,
marrying His flesh to wood
and raise Him up for all to read
the message of the cross:
the foolishness of God.
